Vivadid looked around him, at the sea of faces, showing a mixture of hope, nervousness, and excitement. Some were old friends, come to catch up and chat after the performance. But some were new, completely unknown to him, and it was these whom he hoped to inspire the most with his tales and his music. In his view, there was never enough creativity in this world. There was always room for new ideas, new stories, and new music.
For Vivadid was a minstrel, a bard - part storyteller, part musician, he traveled the world with his troupe. Of course, there were all sorts of chemical doodads and technological widgets in the wagon that helped them actually earn money, but the music was what they truly enjoyed.
And the stories, of course. It had started with the music, but a few stories of old friends met in younger days had become quite popular in pubs, and with a few literary licenses and a few alterations, some simplifications and name changes and all of a sudden Vivadid was the most popular bard in the land, with tales of the Snowflower and the Rose Prince, the Dark Prince and his band of roving rogue Pyros, rivalries between the weapon-fighters and the plant-weavers and the squirrel-talkers, the Eccentric Duo, the Ladies of Mischief, the ever-so-secret unokaa, and of course all the other standard tales about elves and powers and Gwynn and whatnot, told with Vivadid's special flourish.
But now it was a hometown show - finally the troupe had come back to its roots, although they weren't about to reveal this to the crowd at large and dispel the long-held belief that all bards and minstrels had always been roaming the land since birth. Such mystery added to the power of the stories they told. As such it was a relief to see that most of the faces in the crowd were new to this place...and yet...some seemed almost...almost like they were peering at him from the past. Bits and pieces caught his eye - a pair of blue eyes here, a mop of light brown hair there, the occasional evil smirk he could've sworn he'd seen before, but the next moment it was gone and the crowd was just a blur of faces once more.
"WELCOME!" Wendel called to the crowd, arms and eyes wide open, an almost maniacal grin on his face.
Vivadid shook himself free of his thoughts. Even if some of the children of his "legends" were here, watching him, they should still have years ahead of them before they came into their powers; and there was no way they could possibly recognize their parents from the stories he told. It was just another show, that was all.

Not sure how to continue on from there smoothly, but there it is. There's more background in my notebook, talking about the legends starting up and the addition of Timothy (whose name may be changed later), the servant/apprentice boy of the troupe. And there's a draft of the story of the Two Brothers and the Warriors of Dren (based on the Nerdfighters), which I may use to transition into the first introductions of the kids. Most of the kids still need names though. Please make suggestions. :)
